TAWA PRESENTS ARTISTS WORKSHOPS AND POETRY SESSION WITH MAJOR POETS AND WRITERS –
The Trenton Artists Workshop Association in association with the Trenton Museum Society will present the 2012 Spring Forward events on Saturdays March 24 and 31 at Ellarslie, the Trenton City Museum in Cadwalader Park .
Events are free and open to the public.
The March 24 program, running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., features the following sessions and presenters:
“State Arts Grant Opportunities” presented by Don Ehman, the coordinator of artist services for the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
“Press Release Writing for Artists” with Anne Levin, writer for Town Topics, Princeton Magazine, freelance entertainment magazine writer, and former reporter/reviewer for The Times of Trenton .
“Grant Writing Basics for Artists” by Dan Aubrey, former director of development for The New Jersey State Museum and grants review panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Council on the Arts, and the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
“Business Practices for Artists” led by prominent regional artist Tom Kelly.
“Using Social Networks to Promote Art” by TAWA artist Robert Girandola.
“Planning Arts Projects by Artists,” including Aubrey Kauffman, coordinator of the “Trenton Makes” Photography Exhibit and Book and the Trenton Artists Workshop Association’s international art exchange with the Soviet Union . He will be joined by Dan Aubrey, co-coordinator of the Eyes on Trenton Festival, associate manager for the New Jersey Urban Park Design Competition, and more.
The workshops will be followed by the discussion of TAWA’s upcoming summer show “Trenton Makes,” which will include exhibitions at Ellarslie in Trenton and The Prince Street Gallery in New York City .

Slated for the March 31 is an afternoon of poetry readings and roundtables with some of the area’s most respected and vibrant personalities.
Sessions are as follows:
1:00 p.m., the program begins with a session “Small Press and Cooperative Publishing for Poets,” conducted by Princeton-based Ragged Sky Press publisher Ellen Foos and managing editor Vasiliki Katsarou.
1:30 p.m., regional and state writer Daniel Aubrey and visual artist Mark Schreiber will discuss the collaboration between writer and illustrator for the blog story project created for the Trenton Artists Workshop Association. The story is being re-released as a print-on-demand publication.
2:00 p.m., a reading featuring award winning Anne Marie Macari, internationally respected and past area based Pablo Medina, nationally known Trenton writer Doc Long, award winning poet and editor of Mercer County literary magazine Luray Gross, award winning poet and actress Hayden Saunier, writer and reviewer John Timpane, Vasiliki Katsarou, former New Jersey Poet Laureate Gerald Stern and Pulitzer Prize winning poet C. K. Williams.
3:00 p.m., visual artist Paul Matthews, and poets C. K. Williams and Gerald Stern, in conversation with Philadelphia Inquirer Books Editor, John Timpane, will discuss their art in the context of collaboration, and trace the evolution of the arts scene in the Trenton and Princeton-area over the past few decades.
The Trenton Artists Workshop Association, founded in 1979 to promote the arts in the greater Trenton area, is supported in part by the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission through funding from the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts.
